Combat troops exposed to stress have been found to have lower levels of NPY while resilient Special Forces troops exhibit elevated NPY levels (59). The statistics are growing at alarming rates when it comes to deaths by suicide, PTSD, substance use disorders, and other mental health conditions caused by the day to day stress and trauma that comes along with doing the job.
